Laura Stubbs is a queer writer, director and producer from Toronto. She graduated from Queen's University, where her research on Eating Disorders was published in the Canadian Journal of Counseling and Psychotherapy.
She studied screenwriting at UCLA, with a focus in comedy. To raise money for tuition, she organized a stand-up show, "Laughs for Laur", where she came out to all of her friends and family... after charging them $25.00 to be there.
She returned to Toronto mid-pandemic where she wrote, directed and produced a short film no which premiered at the 2022 Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival. Right Under My Roof, a web series she wrote, co-produced and co-directed is now available on Bell Fibe TV1.
Laura uses her academic background in psychology to create complex characters by critically examining human behaviour and relationships. By writing through a comedic lens, she makes difficult topics like eating disorders more digestible to an audience. Laura hopes that by sharing her unique yet relatable queer stories, she can give a voice to those who are unheard.
